Lots of Names!
Originally called a Pink Slip because the form was printed on pink paper, it is also called a Roadworthy, Safety, Registration (or Rego) Inspection. Once completed by our mechanic, a Safety Certificate is created in the RMS system so your car registration can be renewed immediately.
A safety inspection is required for all vehicles over 5 years old. We can inspect:
- Commercial vehicles under 4.5 tonnes and
- Trailers and caravans under 4.5 tonnes
Larger vehicles need to visit the RMS inspection station.
Your annual NSW Safety Inspection has two good purposes:
1. It ensures that every vehicle on the road is checked for safe operation.
2. As part of your maintenance program, a safety inspection is a useful check of the basics to ensure the safe operation of your car.
- Seats and seatbelts
- Lights and electrical
- Windscreen, wipers, washers and windows
- Body and chassis
- Steering & Suspension
- Wheels and Tyres
- Brake Components
- Engines & Drivelines
- Exhaust Emissions
- Foot and Hand Brake Test
If the vehicle complies in all of these areas in accordance to the Code of Practice then the Safety Certificate is issued on the spot. We complete the certificate online so you can renew your registration immediately.
How Long is the Inspection Report Valid?
Safety inspection certificates are valid for six months. This means that you’ll need to use the report to renew registration within six months of having the safety check.
What Happens if the Vehicle Fails the Inspection?
At the time of the inspection we will advise any issues that need to be corrected befpre the vehicle can pass. You may authorise us make the repairs or take the vehicle to another mechanic and return for the inspection to be completed and the certificate issued.
